If you’re reading this, visualize what success looks like for you today

As BC Students, we know how challenging it can be to balance the never-ending flow of assignments, extracurriculars, and social relationships. Taking care of your physical, mental, and social health is essential to getting the most out of your college experience. This is where the Boston College Murray Center for Student Wellness can help students succeed. Wellness Center staff, coaches, programs, and events help students reflect on their personal wellness, develop skills to maintain a balanced lifestyle, and make informed, healthy choices that will stay with them long after graduation.

Through the Institute for Wellness Coaching, students can receive individualized wellness coaching to support their mental, physical, and social health. Trained Peer Wellness Coaches help students work through lifestyle challenges and develop goals that will support a meaningful, self-sustaining, healthy, and value driven life.

In this letter, Thomas and Gabriel– two of BC’s Peer Wellness Coaches– reflect on why holistic wellness is important to them.

Thomas: To me, there is no shortcut, fast-track, or one-size-fits-all method to your mental health and wellness. While that can make it complicated, it’s also exactly why it’s worth the effort. The journey is yours—from where you choose to go and who you choose to surround yourself with. Figuring out who you are alongside people you care about isn’t just important to life—it is life itself. Some tangible ways I support my own mental health and wellness are by getting some exercise and reconnecting with nature.

Gabriel: Wellness is an active process, not a passive destination. For me, this process means I’m setting goals, testing new strategies, making improvements, and even making mistakes along the way. The great part of seeing wellness this way, is that we can appreciate our growth and realize that we are all at unique pages of our story. Some things I do to prioritize my wellness include exercising and calling my family.

Other ways to support your wellness include:

Journaling

Meditation

Drawing, painting, crafting, or writing

Listening to music or making playlists

Talking with friends

Cooking and eating a delicious meal

So many more!
