Community Kindness Series: Part 1

Photo from BU Arrows

We held an outreach event where students, faculty, and staff wrote messages of kindness, which will be published in collections. This is the first collection of the 3-part series:

If you’re reading this, remember to take care of yourself. The recent events of the world make it hard to remain hopeful and to keep sight of the bigger picture. But, self-care is a form of resistance. The goal of these systems is to drain and deplete us. You cannot advocate for yourself or others if you do not prioritize your needs. So, take that walk. Journal. Meditate. Have a dance party in your room. Do whatever it is. You are worthy of self-care, even when the world says otherwise.

If you’re reading this, take care of yourself! There’s a lot going on in the world, and it’s okay to take space for other things besides school. Go outside and get some sun if you can. Find someone to talk to. Do something that makes you feel good.

If you’re reading this, you are doing your best, and that is what matters! There are people looking out for you and people who genuinely care about how you are doing. Despite this being easier said than done, take time for yourself and take a step back to remind yourself about what is important to you and why you started this journey. Sending many hugs <3

If you’re reading this, I hope you are reminded that you are so loved! When things get tough (as they invariably will do in school) surround yourself with the people who make you happy and bring you joy. After all, a life is a sum of all those good moments, not your performance on a single test.

If you’re reading this, everyone is on their own path. Never forget that. We each have our own individual stories, and we cannot compare our paths with the paths of others! Do what is best for you, do what’s best for someone else.

If you’re reading this, when things feel bleak, rely on your family and friends and look into yourself to remind yourself of all the hope that surrounds you! The future ahead has so much potential for good! Keep it up!

If you’re reading this, the world is a good place full of wonderful people. Do not let some bad moments or some bad people let you forget that.

If you’re reading this, take a few deep breaths and think about something that comforts you—a warm bus, your cozy bed, anything you’d like. Know that you are not alone. Acknowledge what you’re feeling, but keep in mind that setbacks are not what define us—it’s what we do despite them. Hang in there, you got this!

If you’re reading this, you got this! Everything may feel terrible now, but if you persevere, there is a way. This might sound cheesy, but I heard that if you wish for something with all your heart, it’ll come true, even if it’s in an unexpected way. Life throws so many challenges at us and every day can seem like a struggle to survive, so remember to take care of yourself and treat yourself once in a while! Whether it be taking a stroll, hotpot with friends, or just doing that hobby you love that you’ve put off for the longest time.
