The Whispers of Imperfection: Embracing Change's Gentle Touch

If you are reading this, embrace imperfections and welcome new changes.

The world is unpredictable, which can be frightening but also incredibly beautiful. Change is a word often spoken, yet when it occurs, it can feel like we're more focused on avoiding our flaws. Avoiding mistakes is impossible, yet we often find ourselves trying to evade the very human errors that lead to self-discovery and understanding. There is beauty in change and in not being able to control the outcome of every situation. You do not need to be perfect to be accepted. Each of us is human, uniquely created with a purpose. Often, it is in those "imperfect moments" that true innovation and growth occur.

Throughout my life, I’ve placed such high standards on myself that the weight of these expectations often becomes unbearable. As a meticulous planner, my organizational skills are admirable, but they can sometimes underestimate the reality of life's unpredictability. I've crafted detailed plans, mapped out every aspect of my future with the five W’s and how (when, what, why, where, who, and how). However, this pursuit of perfection has led to a disdain for change and an inability to live in the moment.

During my first year of college, I was constantly on the move, ensuring my to-do list was completed. Even taking ten minutes to enjoy the sunshine or enjoy a snack felt like a hassle if it wasn’t pre-planned. It’s not that plans and to-do lists are bad; they are valuable tools. But, like everything, they must be balanced. We are human—prone to fatigue, hunger, and changing emotions. What is the value of perfection if it strips away our authenticity and relatability as individuals?

Change allows creativity to flourish and makes space for authenticity. While I haven't mastered navigating the unpredictable—perhaps no one truly has— I’ve grown to realize that the unplanned moments in my life have led to memorable experiences, like discovering a newfound appreciation for greenery during hot girl walks with friends, randomly stumbling upon cute café shops where I’ve found the best lattes, and countless other experiences. Instead of fearing the unpredictable, we should embrace it. So, here's to a future where we embrace life's changes, knowing that navigating them doesn't always require getting it right the first time, but promises to create unforgettable experiences for us both.
